Powertrain of Innovation, May 15: Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence Workshop

LinKS Connect, May 15, 2017

– Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence

At the LinKS Connect, Felix Marquardt and Aurore Belfrage illustrated the difficulties in identifying cyber attackers.
“Who are these people: Old fashioned criminals trying to earn money by using new technology? Is the hacker a hard-core terrorist or just a “nerd” wanting to show off?”

This question and the agenda of the Conference were of utmost relevance just a few days after the global ransom-ware WannaCry’s attack.

Lars Findsen, LinKS Alumn and Director at Danish Defense and Intelligence Service (DDIS) hosted the LinKS Connect Conference at Frederiksberg Palace to heighten awareness of the cyber security threats and to initiate a broader dialogue with decision makers in an environment of growing digital exposure.

The key speakers represented by the DDIS, Cylance International, EQT Ventures and IBM added significant aspects to the complexities surrounding cyber security issues. The core of the problem is its multidimensional nature, which calls for creating proactive strategies.

The outstanding co-creation at LinKS Connect led to the following points on proactive strategies:

•    Shifting our mental model
Cyber security is a necessity. However, our mental model must not only focus on how we can protect ourselves, but also consider exploiting the advantages of digitalisation.
The ultimate goal is to enable citizens to gain more value in their everyday lives by using digital solutions. Our current reactive focus on cyber security should become more proactive and value seeking. Turn around the value proposition!

•    Creating C-suite positions for security
Cyber security should be incorporated at the top level in organisations to ensure high priority. A C-suite person should be responsible for setting the cyber security agenda, continuously updating the organisations’ security system and anti-virus software, addressing the vulnerabilities in systems, minimising risk and using common sense as the way forward.

•    Competitive advantage
Denmark can develop cyber security to become a crucial competitive advantage in the global market. We must explore how to leverage and maybe even develop intelligent software, which can protect us up front against potential attacks by hackers. In this way, creating Danish products with the best and safest software in our appliances can be a parameter of quality for the customer.

The ability to orchestrate the right alliances that withstand the digital challenges in a holistic way is a societal matter where we must rethink our mental model to reach innovative directions. Decision makers from the government, producers of goods, services, software, and ultimately end users and companies share the responsibility because of our collective vulnerability. It is a potential future edge for competition in global business as well as citizen service.

For the grand finale at the Knight’s Hall, Frederiksberg Palace, the LinKS Network was invited to a world-class music experience with the three breath-taking musicians, Philippe Benjamin Skow, Sune Hjerrild, and Nico Donkervoort.

Thank you, Lars Findsen and team, to our alumn and the honourable musicians for a second to none, unforgettable experience.

Beware out there….
